Ate Sparrows

So I haven't dropped off the face of the earth I promise - I just have been really really busy filling orders since Tradefair. We now feature something like 25 new stockists, which will be featured soon on our website (www.eightsparrows.com) and so I have been run off my feet. I've found time to keep an eye on what's new though so here's some of my favorites out there in the big wide world at the moment:

High Tea with Mrs Woo is the product of a great deal of style and much hard work from three sisters Rowena, Juliana and Angela Foong. They have had a stunning shop in Newcastle for years which I make sure I visit whenever I'm in town but now they have an even more stunning shop on Oxford St in Paddington. I visited it yesterday and was blown away by their new range. Visit them in store or have a look at their website www.highteawithmrswoo.com

Eight Sparrows will be appearing at both Life InSTYLE and at the GHA Tradefairs in Melbourne this August. At Life in Style we will be appearing in conjunction with Bluebird and Honey, Dan300 and Giddy Giddy as the Bambini Collective at stand K50 in the Royal Exhibition Centre - 9 Nicholson St Carlton.  For GHA I will be showing with Dan300 and Bluebird and Honey appearing under Dan300  at Stand G1205 at the Grand Pavilion Melbourne Showgrounds. The new ranges for all of our labels are looking great and we're getting very excited about showing together again. Hope to see you there.

So as mentioned earlier, Dani from Dan300 designs for Bluebird and Honey and all three of us will be showing together at the Melbourne Tradefairs. Dani currently makes some quirky jewellery that truly highlights the many possibilities of buttons in the most delightful ways. My absolute favorites are her black perspex pear brooches which aren't actually in this image at all (just to keep you on your toes - I know you looked) but are worth going to visit at her site if only for the appreciation of the luscious design form that is a pear.  I hear she's launching a new range soon that explores a different path... intrigued? Stay posted.

So since you will probably notice their name a lot on this blog as I work quite closely with them, I figure I better tell you a little about Bluebird and Honey. They are a design label that focuses on Children's and Gift wares with a retro and handmade vibe and is working on the cool principle that it never wants to be stagnant and so their plan is to regularly change the designers they collaborate with so that the range always has new voices chiming in to keep things fresh and different. Currently the creator of Bluebird and Honey, Leah Kress is working with designer Dani Rosen (who runs DAN300 which I will tell you more about soon) to produce a range fully of whimsy and quirky appliqued fun. Their winter range has been a huge hit and Summer will be launched at the Melbourne Tradefairs and is top secret but having been given a sneak preview, I can say it wil be worth the wait! I'll post pictures here once it's been released.

Sorry it's been a little while between posts. The Magnolia square market went really well and the event seemed to be a bit hit with both the merchants and crowds alike. I met some lovely people, saw some of my regulars plus made some new fans. The journals were a hit and I am excited about taking them to the Melbourne Tradefairs.  Some of my favourite other retailers were Sweet Dreams Cakes, who had the most stunning (and delicious) hand stamped cranberry and pistachio biscuits; the lovely girls from Koolaman Designs who hand stamp their customized jewellery for you whilst you wait and the stunning kids furniture from Little Nest. Oh to be honest everyone was so lovely and the stuff was so beautiful I could have spent a lot of money, but I was good - mostly.

Hopefully we'll be invited back to the November fair ready for the lead up to christmas...

I don't know how you feel about snails... but I love them. But not so much when they are eating my vegie patch or when I've got their slime on my fingers (trust me so something so harmless looking it is pain to get off) which is why Herbert and Friends' softy snails are the perfect middle ground. I have a gorgeous little felt snail brooch from these guys who I have named Gertrude. Herbert and Friends have a wide range of lovely little felt and fabric softies and brooches in some really cute characters, have a look... herbertandfriends.weebly.com

The is a new high-end designer market about to have its first run in Sydney. Magnolia Square is a Melbourne shopping institution which is stretching it's legs out all the way to the Tea House at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney for July 2, 3 &4. I'll be there with Eight Sparrows and helping out another label I work with Bluebird & Honey  so come by and visit us. I'm actually really looking forward to it, not only for the chance to show my things but also to see some of the other beautiful things they'll have there - have a look at their website to see what I mean.... www.magnoliasquare.com.au

As you can see in the stunning new pictures (courtesy of my good friend and Herbert & Friends creator Torunn, I'll tell you about her soon), I've recently added a new range to the Eight Sparrows collection. These hardcover journals are filling with pages and pages of gorgeous thick, art-quality blank paper just waiting to be filled with thoughts, memories and exciting new projects. They come in two sizes, the larger ones ($29.95) are perfect for diaries and every-day journals whilst the little ones ($19.95) are just right to live in your handbag and be home to your shopping lists. Each fabric will only ever appear once or twice so each journal will be as unique and special as the ideas you put into it. I hope to have them up on my online store soon, but will be premiering them at the Magnolia Square market (more on that soon). Can't wait for people to take them home.
